Tattoo Aftercare

Fresh Tattoo

Proper aftercare is essential to ensure your tattoo heals properly.  It is crucial to maintain a clean surface for the initial days following a fresh tattoo. Keep the tattoo covered for the first 6-12 hours. If needed, apply a minimal amount of A&D ointment after the plastic is removed from the fresh tattoo (please see steps below for adhesive). Important: A&D ointment should not be used 48 or more hours following the tattoo.

Adhesive: Any plastic adhesive is advised to remain on the tattoo for 3-4 days. If the adhesive starts to leak, remove it and clean surface.

Moisturizing Tattoo

Following the initial steps above, the fresh tattoo should start to dry and peel after a couple of days. This can vary depending on the amount of ink saturation in the tattoo and the individual's body.

As the tattoo begins to dry and peel, we advise to keep the tattoo moisturized with any of the following ointments/lotions/soaps: Aquaphor/Eucerin, Lubriderm (fragrance free), Dove (fragrance free), cocoa butter, and any other fragrance free lotion or soap.

Continue to moisturize the tattoo daily, as needed. Avoid over-moisturizing the tattoo by applying a thin layer of the suggested moisturizers (above) only when the surface is dry.

IMPORTANT

  • DO NOT swim or submerge your new tattoo in water
  • DO NOT re-wrap your tattoo after the advised durations (above)
  • DO NOT expose your unhealed tattoo to direct sunlight, tanning booths, or gym equipment
  • DO NOT scratch or pick at your tattoo
  • DO NOT use Vaseline or Bacitracin
